The Myth About Carpet Seams - Explained!

Although it is not possible to make carpet seams invisible, correct construction and placement will ensure that the seams will not be visible to the casual eye.

When measuring for carpet, it is important to take into consideration the placement of the seams. Carpet is available in 12’ and 15’ widths. Depending on the layout of the room, the use of a wider carpet roll might minimize the amount of seams needed.

Seams should be placed at the far end of rooms and not in walk ways. Ensure that the seams are not running parallel to windows, as the seam will reflect light, making it evident. Always ensure that the nap of the carpet runs in the same direction when seaming two pieces of carpet together. Also, as much as possible, place seams in areas that will be laden with furniture

Certain carpets hide seems better than others. Seams are more apparent with low pile plush carpets compared with high pile plush carpets. Seams are more apparent in berber carpets, when compared to plush carpets.

Patterned carpets require additional carpet in order to match the pattern when seaming two pieces together. The additional carpet required should be calculated by the salesman at the time of measuring.
